On Saturday May 23, 2015, the ISM held its annual Community Graduation Ceremony for high school graduates. The program is largely a social event (which includes a nice dinner) intended to bring together community graduates from throughout the greater Milwaukee area.
The program showcases the diversity of our community members, not only in terms of schools attended, but also the broad range of cultures and ethnicities in our community.
During the program, graduates are given the opportunity to showcase their achievements, to deliver short speeches, and to meet graduates from other area high schools.
This year's program was attended by thirty graduates from seven area high schools, including DSHA, Franklin, Marquette, Oak Creek, Salam and others!
All of the graduates indicated that they will continue to pursue their educational goals at a wide variety of local, state and national universities, including Alverno, Marquette, UW-Milwaukee, UW-Madison, Johns Hopkins and Harvard!
We congratulate all of our graduates (as well as their their families). We wish all of you the very best as you move on the the next chapter of your lives. May Allah (SWT) bless and guide you all!
The Islamic Society of Milwaukee has purchased a former church building across the street from the UWM Student Union. The building, located at 2223 E. Kenwood Boulevard, will be able to accomodate the significant number of local and foreign Muslim students who are enrolled at UWM, in addition to the community members who reside on the east side of Milwaukee.
The new property includes a large main hall which can accomodate more than 400 worshippers, a finished basement with a commercial kitchen, and an attached duplex. The first floor of the duplex has been converted into offices and the second floor and attic can be used as a residence.
The main priority of the ISM is to have the prayer hall ready for the Blessed Month of Ramadan, the Muslim fasting month, which will begin on June 18.
