The ISM Main Center is the first religious and educational facility established by the ISM.  Established in the former “New Road School” in 1982 and expanded multiple times since, the facility serves as a main hub for the activities of many Muslims throughout the Milwaukee area.  In addition to having the largest Muslim prayer area in the City of Milwaukee, the Main Center also houses Salam Middle and High School.  In the near future, the high school will inshallah (God willing), move to a new campus being built in Franklin.  The middle school will remain in the Main Center.

Since 1982, the ISM Main Center has served as a magnet for the Muslim community.  The largest concentration of Muslims in the Greater Milwaukee area is in the vicinity of the Main Center.  The Main Center serves a very diverse group of Muslims of many backgrounds and ethnicities.  Large numbers of our community now own or rent homes near the Main Center.   Community members have also established ethnic grocery stores, restaurants, medical and dental clinics, salons, day care centers, resource centers, refugee assistance centers and many other businesses in the area.  City leaders and area businesses have recognized the Main Center for having a positive economic impact and for serving as a stabilizing entity that attracts families and promotes home ownership in the area.

As expected, as our south side community has expanded and some of our families have matured, they have relocated beyond the south side of Milwaukee to area suburbs, including Oak Creek, Franklin, Greenfield and other surrounding areas.  

As part of its long-term plans, the ISM has included the establishment of a large religious facility to replace the existing Masjid (Mosque) which is housed in the Main Center.  The new facility will be established in the immediate vicinity of the existing Main Center.   The existing Masjid will continue to be used by Salam Middle School students and others.  Although another Masjid is being built by the ISM in Franklin (adjoining the new high school), the main hub of our community will continue to be located near the Main Center on the south side of Milwaukee.
