ISM University Center was established in 2015. It is located across the street from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Student Union Building on Kenwood Avenue. UWM is the largest public university in the City of Milwaukee and is part of the University of Wisconsin system of schools.

In the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, the largest concentration of Muslims in Milwaukee were students located near UWM. For a number of years, the main Friday congregational prayers for Muslims were held in a rented basement hall of the Kenwood United Methodist Church, located across the street from the UWM Student Union building (immediately east of what is now ISM University Center).

A large number of Muslim students attend UWM, including local students, as well as students from other areas of our state and country and visiting foreign students. The area also includes a good number of community members who have established their residences in the area, including UWM professors and other staff. The ISM purchased the University Center building to serve the religious, educational and other needs of students and community members.

The ISM is planning major exterior renovations of ISM University Center in the late summer/fall of 2025.
